Special Meets

In addition to A and B meets, Virginia Run participates in several other meets throughout the season.

Time Trials

Always the first "meet" of the season, Time Trials is actually a practice meet. We do not swim against any other teams. This is a chance for our swimmers to learn how meets work and get a time in each event, which establishes the team ladder for the beginning of the season. This helps the coaches decide who will swim in our first A meet. Additionally, Time Trials gives our volunteers a chance to learn/practice the duties of their volunteer jobs.

Relay Carnival

All NVSL divisions host a division relay carnival in the middle of the season. Typically held on a Wednesday night, each team in the division will nominate one relay team for each event of the meet. Traditionally this includes a freestyle and a medley relay for each age group, as well as a mixed-age relay. Points are scored and a winner is declared at the end of the meet.

All-Star Relay Carnival

The top relay times in each event from across all the relay carnivals in all of NVSL will qualify to swim in the NVSL All-Star Relay Carnival.

Divisionals

At the end of the season, each team sends two swimmers in each event to compete in Divisionals - a division-wide individual championship meet. Each swimmer may only swim up to two events in Divisionals in a given year. Coaches select swimmers for Divisionals based on the ladder and other factors.

Individual All-Stars

The top 20 times in each event from across all the NVSL Divisional meets will qualify to attend the NVSL Individual All-Star meet. (Top 18 will swim, the next two are alternates.)
