B Meets
B meets are developmental meets that are swum on Monday evenings throughout the summer. All of our swimmers swim in B meets. No score is kept for B meets. These meets are swum against other teams in the Western Fairfax Developmental League (WFDL).

Declaring for a B meet involves not only indicating if you will or will not be able to attend the meet, but also selecting which strokes your swimmer wants to swim. You need to sign up every week by Saturday evening. We encourage parents to sign up for default strokes for all B meets at the beginning of the season - choices can be changed up to the deadline, but this will prevent you from forgetting to sign up and have your swimmer miss their chance to participate in the meet!
When are B meets?
B meets are generally swum on Monday evenings; warmups usually begin at 5 pm for the home team, followed by warmups for the away team, and races usually begin at 6 pm. The B meets sometimes go until 10pm (on occasion, they can go later, but we try to prevent that from happening.)
Who swims in a B meet?
All swimmers are eligible to swim in the B meets. Swimmers can choose which strokes they want to swim. Our coaches may remove swimmers from events if the swimmer is not yet able to swim a stroke legally.
What strokes do you swim in a B meet?
Swimmers choose which strokes they want to swim for B meets.
What is an exhibition swim?
In B meets, some swimmers will be marked as exhibition swimmers. Exhibition swimmers are swimming to see if they can get a "personal best" time for their strokes, but they will not be scored against the regular swimmers and will not be eligible for ribbons/awards.
Depending on the meet format, these swimmers may or may not swim in separate heats and may or may not swim against older swimmers.
Why are boys and girls swimming at the same time?
In order to complete meets more quickly, B Meets may swim with mixed events (where boys and girls events are swum intermixed). Boys and girls will still be scored separately (meaning the fastest girl will get a first place ribbon, even if she was beaten by boys she was swimming against.)
What limits are there for swimming in a B meet?
Each swimmer may only swim up to 2 individual events, plus an individual medley.
Swimmers who have placed 2nd or 3rd in an A meet will be required to swim that stroke as an exhibition swim in B meets for the rest of the season.
Swimmers who have placed 1st in an A meet in *any* stroke will be required to swim all 4 strokes as exhibition swims in B meets for the rest of the season. (The exception to this is the individual medley race. There are no exhibition swims for IM).
B meet strokes and age groups
B meets will have races for Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly, along with the individual medley - a race where a swimmer swims one lap of every stroke.
The IM is swum as the last race of the meet, except during the 4th meet of the season, when the IM is swum first.
B meet age groups are: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. (Some events may have an 8 & under event instead of a separate 6 & under event).
Who is a B meet swum against?
We swim 5 B meets during a season, against opponents in the WFDL. These teams are from the Centreville/Chantilly/Oakton area.
What is the WFDL?
The Western Fairfax Developmental League is made up of 8 NVSL teams in the Centreville/Chantilly/Oakton area. These teams swim each other for B meets on Monday nights, to have a low-pressure environment where all swimmers can participate and gain meet experience.
