Patrick Kearney Head Coach

I am so excited to return as head coach for the Riptide! This will be my third season as head coach and 23rd year on the team! I started coaching in 2014 as a Junior Coach, then became a Senior Coach, Assistant Coach for two seasons (2017-2018), then Head Coach for two seasons (2019-2020). Over the last five years I have been working behind the scenes with the team, but now I am ready to be back and instill the importance of teamwork, team spirit, and sportsmanship to our swimmers.

Outside of coaching in the summer, I am very involved in the swim community. I have been coaching year-round on Centreville Swim Club for four years, I serve as a committee chairperson for the NVSL, and also serve as a chairperson for Potomac Valley Swimming.

Swimming background:

  • Swam on Virginia Run from ages 5-18 and broke multiple team records
  • NVSL Individual All Stars champion and multiple time podium finisher
  • Riptide Swim Team record breaker and participant in Junior Olympics, Junior/Senior Champs, and other championship meets
  • Westfield High School record holder and states qualifier
  • 4x Collegiate Club Swimming Nationals qualifier

Elizabeth Klanderman Assistant Head Coach

I am excited to begin my coaching journey with Riptide as an Assistant Head Coach this season! This is my first season in this role, and I previously spent four years as a buff school coach with the Greenbriar Dolphins, where I worked with swimmers of different ages and skill levels.

I have been swimming competitively since I was five years old with Greenbriar. I continued with club teams in the winter then year round, and later swam on my high school varsity team. I am currently a student-athlete at Converse University in South Carolina, where I swim on the NCAA Division II team while majoring in Communications and Media. I hope to pursue a career in social media in the future.

Outside of swimming, I run a small nail business and enjoy being creative. During the summers, I also teach swim lessons to help young swimmers learn the basics or improve their skills for competition.

Coaching has always been a dream of mine, and I am very excited for this opportunity. I look forward to a great season and to helping swimmers grow both in and out of the pool.
